Extension Classes
This class is designed for students to understand content beyond the H2 Syllabus, and develop an understanding of Chemistry literature and analysis.
Pre-Lesson preparation
Before class, students are required to:
- Provide a topic or field of interest in Chemistry. If unsure, a short discussion will be conducted via email or text to define a suitable area of focus.
- Read the selected research paper provided prior to the lesson.
This ensures students are actively engaged with the material and able to participate meaningfully in discussion.
During the lesson
- Students will first be introduced to methods for identifying credible scientific journals and performing basic literature screening to locate relevant research within a chosen field.
- They will then be guided through a structured approach to breaking down technically complex scientific literature, with emphasis on developing analytical skills relevant to STEM-based university study.
- Key sections of the selected paper will be used as worked examples to demonstrate interpretation and reasoning.
- The session will conclude with a guided presentation and discussion based on the chosen topic of interest, reinforcing key ideas and connections in the field.
Course fees
Each lesson will be 2h long, at 120 SGD nett per session.
Fees are to be paid at least 5 days before class.
